Back at Lord Manor, Harrison walked down the curved staircase toward the dining room. He gazed down on the enormous front entrance, beyond the gigantic indoor columns and the Napoleonic French furniture, to the Van Gough hanging as the foyer’s centerpiece. The front hall’s majesty often caught first-time visitors off guard by its beauty, but it was an old hat to Harrison. This house and all of Lord Manor was his palace, but he knew this was only his reign as king.

The family property had been bought and paid for by the logging dynasty that his great-great-grandfather, Jonas Lord, had founded. Five generations of Lord Men had proudly forged this tradition, which Harrison was determined to keep alive for future generations––including the son that he was still waiting for his wife to give him.

Harrison hesitated on the stairs and looked at the portrait of him and Julie on their wedding day. Their youthful, hope-filled faces reflected what a great day it had been and showed promise for the start of many wonderful things. But that had not been the case. He knew all too well that they’re unfulfilled expectations had quite a bit to do with his overactive libido. He was a man, after all, and a man’s primary drive is to procreate with as many women as possible, isn’t it? That lesson was just about the only thing Harrison had carried over from his high school science class. Classic Harrison, nothing was ever his fault.

Each time that he mounted another female conquest, he always told himself that it was Julie’s fault. If she gave it to him more than once every few months, he would not have to go sniff out fresh meat. He had so many regrets about marrying a woman who turned out to be a frigid bitch. She did make a decent trophy wife, though. She was pretty, and she had a terrific body.

The few positives were not worth all the misery that their union had brought the both of them. Harrison thought for a moment of the only woman that he had ever truly loved.

If I had married the woman I wanted to marry, would things be this way now? Would I have cheated on her? No, it would have been only her!

That seemed like so long ago. He quickly drove her from his mind. Although that love was long over, his secret desire for the one who got away was always somewhere in the back of his mind.

“Hopefully, Julie will leave me,” Harrison said to himself as he finished down the stairs.

He entered the stately dining room where the rest of his family was already eating breakfast.

“You and the little miss having a spat? I couldn’t help but overhear you two this morning,” Abernathy said with a grin as Harrison took his place at the head of the table.

“Just putting her in her place. You know how high strung Julie can get,” he replied. Molly, the elderly servant, put a plate stacked high with pancakes and sausage in front of him.
